I AM AN AMERICAN

I am an American

My soul is free,

my heart is brave, I need no war on terror,

I am an American, and I cannot be terrorized.

I live my life, in God I trust,

I worship as I choose, and I speak as I feel.

I am an American, and I cannot be terrorized.

I was born to be free

I was not born to be ruled, I was not born to be safe.

I am an American, and I cannot be terrorized.

I rise and I fall, I win and I lose,

I go where I choose and not where I am led.

I am an American, and I cannot be terrorized.

I am my government – I am ‘the people’

My Constitution is my governor.

I expect my elected officials to keep it safe,

I expect my elected officials to protect my rights,

God holds my life – in God I trust.

I am an American, and I cannot be terrorized.

Freedom is not a meaningless word,

It is not an advertising slogan –

It is a right to live openly, or privately as one chooses

Our forefathers did not die to be free from terror,

They died for the freedoms only governments and slave owners can steal.

They did not risk their lives to keep their shores safe

Kings and dictators keep their shores safe

They died not for safety but for freedom

They died to keep their lives free and independent

Animals in zoos are safe from being terrorized by other animals

but not from being mistreated by their keepers.

I am not an animal – my days are not numbered by terrorists,

and they are not numbered by fear.

My days are numbered by God, and in God I trust.

I am an American, and I cannot be terrorized.

My body is born of this piece of the earth,

this land of the free and home of the brave.

My soul is born of the God in whom I trust.

“Give me Liberty or Give me Death”, but do not presume to give me safety. God numbers my days.

In God I trust.

I do not choose safety over freedom, I choose to be an American,

therefore I cannot be terrorized.

    I am wondering what being an American has got to do with it. If you were not an American, then what? No trust in God? No freedom?

    I am an Englishman, but I don’t expect that to give me any freedom, from terrorism or anything else. It is nothing.

    It sounds as though you are claiming like certain Zionist Jews to be one of God’s chosen people, as if the others are expendable, as if they matter less.

    I think that you don’t understand my point, I an not referring to the “ACT” of a terrorist, I am referring to the “FEELING” of being terrorized. I do not believe that I will die unless it is the will of God, I do not believe that anyone can kill me, not because I am special, but because I believe that my life is in God’s hands, as, I believe, so are the lives of everyone. However, I also believe that this country has been born out of rebellion against unjust treatment, so as an American, I believe that the freedoms that we fought for to become a nation, include the freedom from fear. I cannot speak to you as to what it means to be an Englishman, but as a human being and a soul created from God, you too have the right to live your life with the faith that your life is not in the hands of a terrorist, but in the hands of God – and therefore, regardless of what anyone does,be it terrorist, or government, or gang, or thug – you have the right to live your life knowing that only God determines your fate, not a man or woman with a bomb, a gun, a knife, or the means to control you with fear.

    I hope that this is a little clearer. It is not about being any kind of chosen, it is about believing that my life and everyone else’s lives are in God’s hands and if you believe this, then you cannot be terrorized.

    Well, I see the terrorism threat as a result of the Government’s aggressions. I am still furious with Tony Blair about joining with Bush in the invasion of Iraq. Unlike America, we have a large proportion of Muslims in this country. they are aware that their democratic vote has not been sufficient to prevent their government from bombing innocent muslims in other countries. Some of them, born in England, have been radicalized and may become the enemy within. I live in a town with 15% muslims and there is a mosque in my street a few yards away.

    If only God determines my fate, then this is absolute and unaffected by those with bombs, guns and knives. All is the will of Allah. So what does this “right” mean? A right to bomb possible nests of terrorists, or lock up possible terrorists indefinitely?

    I don’t know how America can be free from the kind of fear that you talk about, unless it takes great care to live like a good and inoffensive neighbour with the rest of the world. In that direction it could do more.

    As for the historical facts about the foundation of America, they are ignoble, to the extent that it meant terrorising the natives who were there first. As in Israel. But I don’t want you to think I am talking politics here. I just cannot understand how America historically or as a place of “freedom” today has anything to do with the spiritual thread which I understand runs through the writings on your blog as its main theme.

    In my experience patriotism is deeply tainted, but one can be loyal to one’s neighbours: those whom one knows through unmediated perceptions.

    The rest, the idea of America, or the United Kingdom or the politics of any continent, is perceived only through the bias and selectivity of history and media. An illusion therefore, loaded with other people’s agendas.

    I can understand that with a background of oppression and prejudice experienced personally or that you align yourself with, you may attach great importance to the idea of rights. But it seems to me that rights are a weapon, in the realm where the pen is mightier than the sword. “Rights” are a term of rhetoric like “freedom”, not to be confused with spiritual truths; no matter what the preachers in their pulpits may say.

  4. I agree with what you say about the government and I feel that we are and have been terrorized mostly by our governments. I believe in the “Spirit” of America, not at all in its actions. I believe that the founding fathers of this country hoped that with the words would follow the actions, but that is not, sadly, usually the human way to be. I also have to say that I believe that there is a plan that is greater than us and that what is happening now is a part of it. We are too (not you, in general) separated in our beliefs, on one end, too unwilling to live as equals, all paths being equal to reaching God, all with equal rights to live a full and free live. It is my personal belief that if we don’t equalize ourselves, equalize our beliefs about all others who share the planet – there just won’t be a planet fit for us to share. It is my belief that God is trying to show us, like the movie, “War Games”, that no one ever wins.
